Brad Andrews, the senior vice president of Busch Entertainment Corp. in charge of zoological operations in SeaWorld Orlando and all other Busch parks, has been named the incoming board chairman of the international Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The association and Busch Entertainment made the announcement this morning after Andrews was sworn-in as the 2009 chiarman, at a ceremony at the 84th Annual AZA Conference held this week in Milwaukee.
Andrews is responsible for all SeaWorld and Busch Gardens parks' animal programs, including husbandry, breeding, training, beached animal rescue programs, education and transportation and acquisition procedures. He also serves on the board of the non-profit SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, an independent trust that funds research, conservation and wildlife rescue around the world.
Andrews brings more than 35 years of leadership experience in the zoo and aquarium world. He holds a biology/chemistry degree from St. Mary's College in Moraga, California and started working with marine mammals in 1972 at Marineland of the Pacific, later becoming General Curator at that marine life park. He joined SeaWorld in 1987 as Associate Curator for SeaWorld San Diego, and has progressed to his senior leadership position which encompasses all 10 of the US-based Busch Entertainment parks, as well as four slated to open in Dubai by 2015.
Andrews has also held numerous executive positions with the community’s associations including his current post as Chairman, Board of Trustees of Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute; past-president of the International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine; past-president of the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums; and member of the International Marine Animal Trainers Association, the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, the International Wild Waterfowl Association, and the Society of Marine Mammalogists.
