It was indeed a dream come true for a group of high school students who overcame snow blizzards and flight delays to participate in the third annual Disneyâ??s Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey. Walt Disney World Resort, in partnership with entertainer Steve Harvey hosts 100 high school students who are working to overcome great odds to achieve tremendous accomplishments. The teens traveled from across the country to gain unprecedented access to the magic behind Disney World.
The three-and-a-half day event, Feb. 11-14, features unique, interactive seminars and a wide range of enriching and motivational talks from experts in various fields. Some of the seminar topics: the power of networking, what it takes to get a job in the New Millennium, the importance of technology, unseen jobs in entertainment, and the business of sports. Students bond with celebrities and hear their stories of hard work and perseverance. And, of course, the students have free time to play in Disney Worldâ??s theme parks. Superstar singer and actress Mary J. Blige is the scheduled keynote speaker for the Sunday commencement.
Disneyâ??s Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey was created for high school students who show promise â?? but may need additional motivational support to excel. However, all of the selected students share a trait: the power to DREAM.
In conjunction with The Steve Harvey Morning Show Walt Disney World conducted the Dreamerâ??s Contest to identify the participants â?? high school students, grades 9-12. Parents, teachers, school administrators, church groups and even the students themselves nominated aspiring dreamers from across the nation for the program. The 100 participants were selected by a panel that included educators, communications professionals and business professionals.
