Attendance at Universal Studios Orlando dropped 19.5 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, the theme park’s parent company reported.
In a Security and Exchange Commission filing, the Universal City Development Partners blamed the drop in paid attendance on the weak economy and two changes in the calendar.
The busy Easter holiday fell on March 23 last year, placing it in the first quarter. But this year it was on April 12, inside the second quarter.
Last year’s first quarter was two days longer than this year’s, which also could account for some of the difference, the company said.
