Guests Stuck On Harry Potter Ride, Call 911
From ClickOrlando.com
A guest riding the Forbidden Journey attraction at Universal Studio's Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando called 911 after he became stuck on the ride and felt uncomfortable when a glitch caused it to stop, according to a Universal Studio's spokesman.
There were 132 people on the ride when multiple calls starting coming in to the Orlando Fire dispatch center around 8:11 p.m. Friday. Many callers reported they were stuck hanging upside down, but Universal Studios says the ride does not go upside down. A spokesman described it as a dark, inside ride, similar to the range of motion you'd experience on Universal Studio's Spiderman attraction.
Local 6 crews at the scene reported Orlando Fire Rescue heavy rescue vehicles staging outside the theme park, and Sky 6 captured video of several emergency vehicles with their lights flashing and rescue personnel moving empty stretchers in the backstage area of the park.
According to Universal Studio's, however, it appeared nobody needed to be transported to the hospital, or even be treated at the scene. The spokesman said a glitch with the ride triggered the entire ride to stop just after 8 p.m., as part of its standard safety procedures. The spokesman did not believe anybody was ever in danger, although he admitted some guests became uncomfortable.
The Universal Spokesman said he the parked hoped to have everyone evacuated from the ride by around 9:45 p.m. and the attraction was expected to be open as normal today.
